Source: Al Pereira / GettyFollowing the release of “Regret In Your Tears,” one of three new songs from Nicki Minaj shared Friday, speculation over PARTYNEXTDOOR‘s possible involvement in the song arose on Twitter. Seemingly led by DJ Akademiks, fans took a few of PND’s recent Twitter ‘likes’ as evidence that the OVO songwriter (who lent his pen to Rihanna‘s “Work” and “Sex With Me”) had a hand in the melodic record. One of the more curious tweets he endorsed included a link to “Regret In Your Tears” with the caption “*awaits for PARTYNEXTDOOR reference track*.”
However, looking at the official writing credits, PARTYNEXTDOOR is nowhere to be found, and when Nicki got word of rumors spawned by PND’s ‘likes’ she seemed legitimately confused.
“Party Next Door had NOTHING to do w/
#RegretInYourTears – n*gga aint never heard that song a day in his life,” she wrote on Twitter. “Not sure why he was “liking” tweets. Maybe it was just “funny” to him. Maybe he was…”hacked”. Lol. Either way.”
Apple Music lists the song’s composers as Onika Miraj & Brittany Hazzard, better known by their stage names Nicki Minaj and Starrah. Starrah has co-written such hits as Rihanna’s “Needed Me,” Kevin Gates‘ “2 Phones, and Young Thug & Travis Scott’s “Pick Up The Phone.” She also has a writing credit on Nicki’s new diss track “No Frauds” with Drake and Lil Wayne. While it is strange that no producer is currently credited on “Regret In Your Tears,” the inclusion of Starrah suggests that Nicki is not hiding the names of cowriters. PARTYNEXTDOOR has yet to comment on the speculation.
