Missy Elliot is one of the queens of hip hop hands down. Her witty and unique ways of saying things made us all fall in love with her (especially the music videos). Let’s not forget she has written for many giants in the music game.

We are happy to report that Elliot is making history by becoming the first female rapper to be nominated for the Songwriters Hall of Fame. Other nominees include: Chrissie Hynde, Vince Gill, Mike Love, Jimmy Cliff, Jeff Lynne, Cat Stevens, John Prine, Lloyd Price, Tommy James, and the Eurythmics (Annie Lennox and Dave Stewart) are among the other nominees. If picked, she would be the third rapper to receive the honors behind Jay-Z and Jermaine Dupri.

Elliot will have a busy night regardless at the award ceremony because she was also picked to perform. Mariah Carey will be performing alongside the rapper.
