A former Franklin Township police officer pleaded guilty to one count of deprivation of rights under color of law. The officer, Robert Wells, was caught on video kicking a handcuffed suspect in the head.
Wells, 49, later resigned from the department once the video was circulated in the media and internet. He was indicted in September following an investigation from the incident.
The U.S. Department of Justice Southern District of Ohio stated that “Wells deprived the individual of his constitutional right to be free from unreasonable use of force by a law enforcement officer.” The department also said that “Wells made false and misleading statements in his report to cover up the use of force.”
