It looks like 21 Savage and his legal team are not laughing while he has been detained by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). The 26-year-old rapper was picked up this weekend after being accused of overstaying his Visa (since 2007).

While many fans were scratching their heads to find out the rapper is actually a U.K. citizen, his lawyer, Charles H. Kuck, has released a statement that sheds more light into the matter.

“As a minor, his family overstayed their work visas, and he, like almost two million other children, was left without legal status through no fault of his own.”

Kuck also says after 12 years ICE is now trying to intimidate his client with deportation. Savage applied for a Visa back in 2017 but it is still pending.

“Unnecessarily punish him. [The federal agency is trying] to intimidate him into giving up his right to fight to remain in the United States.”

ICE has also released a statement as to why they decided to detain Savage.

In addition to being in violation of federal immigration law, Mr. Abraham-Joseph was convicted on felony drug charges in October 2014 in Fulton County, Georgia.

Word is that 21 ties with gangs in Atlanta and allegedly financing them is what alerted ICE to look deeper into the rapper. Either way, it looks like the rapper will be fighting to stay in the states.
