Philly native Meek Mill continues to prove that he is more than a superficial rapper toting Rollies and Wraiths. Meek just announced that he is now the latest corporate co-owner of LIDS. LIDS is the premiere spot to cop all your official licensed professional and college sports team apparel and hats!
Today, Meek gave an exclusive interview with Business Insider and he made sure to detail his partnership with the sports apparel retailer. Not only did the rapper become part of the company’s ownership team, but he will also head the creative strategy team. Meek stated that he wants to use his position as the creative strategist to further infuse hip-hop culture with the company.
“I would definitely love to involve our whole culture in LIDS more,” Meek explains. “Because, first thing we do is merchandise in hip-hop, we sell hats, we sell all types of things.”
Meek will immediately start his takeover and put plans in motion. In August, Meek will curate a line of limited edition hats that will be exclusively available at LIDS.
Meek Mill has formed beneficial friendships throughout his career with other successful entrepreneurs. His relationship with businessman Micheal Rubin created the connection that led Meek’s partnership with LIDS. Rubin is also a part of the company’s ownership team. Along with Rubin, Meek also finds inspiration in the business moves made by his peer Jay-Z. During his interview, he details how Hov’s accomplishments influence him to work just as hard.
“I’ve seen Jay-Z, and then I’ve watched other artists who came up around his time. He actually built something. He built businesses, and he built things that made him become the man who he is, that we could call a billionaire guy,” he said. “That’s why I’m working the way I’m working now to build a foundation for myself too.”
