1 Dead, 7 Injured After Downtown Shooting Near Bicentennial Park

An overnight shooting in downtown Columbus left one person dead and several others injured early Saturday morning, according to the Columbus Division of Police.
The incident happened around 3:30AM near the intersection of South Ludlow Street and West Town Street, just a few blocks from Bicentennial Park. Officers responded to the scene after receiving reports of gunfire in the area.

Authorities confirmed that a total of eight people were hurt. Six individuals were shot (five adults and one juvenile) and two others, including another juvenile, sustained injuries unrelated to the gunfire.
One of the shooting victims, 18-year-old Jusiah Mason, was initially hospitalized in critical condition. Police said Mason succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at 12:36PM Sunday afternoon.
The shooting happened less than a half-mile from the starting point of Columbus’ Pride parade route, but police stressed there is no connection between the violence and the Pride festivities.
