DELAWARE COUNTY (Ken Hines) — A former Buckeye Valley teacher pleaded guilty Monday to engaging in sexual relationships with two students. Matthew Miller was sentenced to six months in jail and five years of community control after pleading guilty to two counts of sexual battery. He will be required to register as a tier-3 sex offender for the rest of his life.

Miller, 24, resigned from Buckeye Valley High School in March, 2013, after district administrators received information about two sexual encounters involving Miller and female students that occurred on school grounds. The former teacher admitted to having sexual intercourse with one student, and inappropriately touching another.

“I am 100 percent truly sorry for everything I have done,” Miller said in court. “I apologize to the victims, Buckeye Valley, the teaching community itself, my family and friends, and everyone that’s in this courtroom today.” “Miller took advantage of being a trusted mentor, leader, and educator,” Delaware Co. prosecuting attorney Carol O’Brien said.

Miller, a vocal music teacher, surrendered his Ohio teaching certificate after the sexual misconduct allegations came to light. He told those attending his sentencing he is currently working at a truck stop near his Tiffin home. SOURCE
