ATHENS, Ohio – An 18-year-old Albany man was hospitalized Monday night after he used a product called “Death Grip” which he bought in a local store.

The Athens Sheriff’s Department said the man was found barely breathing around 8 p.m. in a State Street residence.

A 21-year-old witness at the scene told investigators that the man bought “Death Grip” over-the-counter at Twilight Boutique in Athens.

The sheriff’s office said the product appears to be synthetic marijuana.

The witness admitted to smoking “Death Grip” but only taking one hit at a time. The 18-year-old allegedly took multiple hits.

Athens authorities said the product was found in a black bag with the words “Death Grip” on it and an image of a skull with a hand.

Deputies continue to investigate, and the product has been sent to the lab for further testing. SOURCE
