State Of California Slaps Newly Minted Cookbook Author With Lien For Back Taxes

Singer Kelis may have to use the profits from her newly released cookbook to pay the taxman.

Nas’ ex-wife, who in September released her book “My Life On A Plate,” owes nearly $86,000 in back income taxes to the state of California, BOSSIP has learned.

The state’s Franchise Tax Board said the 36-year-old never paid $85,844 in taxes from the money she made in 2011, according to the lien, which was filed earlier this year in the LA County Recorder’s Office. The tax lien will continue to earn interest until she pays it off. If she doesn’t, the state could seize her nearly $1 million Glendale, Ca. home.

In 2013, the IRS said Kelis owed $350,000 in back federal income taxes, but she was able to pay and got the lien released.

With Kelis’ cookbook getting rave reviews, and Nas reportedly paying her $50,000 a month for their son, Knight, the “Milkshake” singer shouldn’t be hard up for cash.

Two phone numbers listed for Kelis were off Monday.
