Now that Kirk Franklin has had his say about how the Black church treats its LGBT members, Erica Campbell has shared her somewhat unsurprising views on the matter.
It was a huge deal that Kirk apologized for how church folks have acted towards Gay and Transgender people, but Erica seemed to have towed the church’s line during a recent chat with TeamCurtains.com.
When asked about her thoughts on the LGBT community, Erica said, “I believe sin is sin and it exists and God forgives it just like everything else.”
She went on to add that regardless of her opinion about anyone else’s sexuality or gender identity, they are no different from any other believer. Neither does she believe that they are condemned.
“The Bible says that God so loved the world — it didn’t say the heterosexual or the homosexual; it didn’t say the Christian, the saved or the unsaved,” Erica explained, admitting that she might not be completely correct in her stance. “It said for God so loved the world that he gave his only son, that whosoever should believe in him, should not parish but have everlasting life. So that’s the only thing I can stay confident in.”
To that end, Erica stated that the church should be more welcoming to believers from all walks of life.
“Keep sharing, keep loving, keep opening the doors of our churches, keep embracing and let God do the changing,” Erica said.
“I think a lot of times we try to be God. We try to make the change. Everybody has an issue,” she added. “Maybe yours is lying and we can’t see your issue. We all have something to work on. My job is to love, not to judge.”
