'Creed' is in theatres now. This segment aired on the KTLA Morning News Thursday January 14th,2016.

With Alejandro González Iñárritu’s The Revenant expected to sweep the 88th Annual Academy Awards, 2016 is undoubtedly Leonardo DiCaprio’s year to finally take home a golden statuette.

As fans of Leo, we’re excited for the astonishing actor, who deserves every bit of recognition. But as per usual, the Academy ignored some of the stellar work by Black filmmakers and thespians this year.

Concussion, starring Will Smith, was snubbed for any nominations. Ryan Coogler and Michael B. Jordan remain unmentioned. Idris Elba was overlooked for his sinister but brilliant role in Beasts Of No Nation, and Straight Out Of Compton only got a single nod for Best Screenplay. (The screenplay writers are White.) Meanwhile, Mad Max: Fury Road was the worst movie of 2016.

Sadly, we’re not surprised. Disappointed. But not surprised.
