A 23-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder in the fatal shooting of a 1-year-old girl who was struck by gunfire in her crib at a Compton home, authorities said Tuesday. Mary Beth McDade reports from Compton for the KTLA 5 News at 10 on Tue

A 23-year-old has been arrested in the shooting death of a baby girl in Compton, California earlier this month, The LA Times reports.

Ray Howard Patterson was taken into police custody by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Monday afternoon. Police believe Patterson was the same suspect who took off in a blue Chevrolet Impala after shooting into the finished garage where one-year-old Autumn Johnson was staying with her mother and father. Johnson was shot while lying in her crib. Her father took her to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Police are still looking for the Impala driver.

Sheriff’s Det. Todd Anderson has yet to disclose how they connected Patterson to the shooting. Homicide unit head Sheriff’s Capt. Steve Katz told reporters the incident is still under investigation as they search for a motive.

In addition to the shooting, Patterson is also facing felony and burglary charges from a separate police encounter in May 2015.

Patterson is expected in court on Wednesday.
