Angry activists and citizens in South Africa trashed a number of H&M stores in response to a recent row over a “racist” hoody sold by the company.

Video footage shows protesters tearing down stands, knocking over mannequins and throwing clothing around at a store in the Menlyn Park store, in Pretoria.

Police resorted to using rubber bullets on protests, as violent action reportedly spread to at least six malls and shopping centers throughout the country after H&M apologized for using an image of a black child modelling a hoodie with the slogan “coolest monkey in the jungle”.
