Meek Mill

Meek Mill back. Well in my opinion, minus jail he never really went anywhere musically.

Well, for those that doubted him following his jail stint, beef with Drake and messy break up with Nicki Minaj, you might take joy to his latest project “Championships” which dropped today.

The 19 track album features everyone on there from former archnemesis Drake, Jay-Z, Fabolous, Cardi B, Rick Ross, Future, Kodak Black and more. This isn’t your typically Meek project. You’re not going to get a lot of yelling and overhyped anthems, but you will get a mature Meek who has been through some things.  A Meek Mill who has had time to digest life and ready to spread knowledge down through those following in his footsteps.

The production on “Championships” is dope as well. You will find alot of classic hip samples flipped from Mobb Deep, Biggie and more. The album definitely gives you a solid hour plus of riding music.

Meek recently sat down with Ebro Dardenon Beats 1 to talk about the inspiration behind Championships.

“I feel like I’m at a championship stage in my life. I call it beating poverty, beating racism, beating the system, beating gun violence and beating the streets,” he explained. “I don’t think an album should sound like one thing. I recorded a lot of my music in New York, so my shit is East Coast-inspired. I feel like the game needs an East Coast sound.”

After a solid listen all morning, here are my Top 5 joints off the album.

  1. What’s Free feat Rick Ross and Jay Z
  2. Oodles O Noodles Babies
  3. Going Bad Feat Drake
  4. On Me feat Cardi B
  5. Trauma
