Ohio’s Department of Transportation is seeking approval to apply changes to the speeding limit anytime in the state.
For example. ODOT wants to be able to lower the speeding limit during a winter storm or in construction zones. Once the storm or construction area clears, the speeding limit will be changed back to the original speed.
The department is currently only allowed to do this on a few stretches of interstate roads. Between I-90 east of Cleveland or when traffic is heavy on I-670 in Columbus, the Dayton Daily News reported. The department is asking to make this a statewide procedure.
If granted, the state would have to install electric speeding limit signs statewide for speed limits to be adjusted when needed.
This proposal will not be asking for lawmakers to increase the speeding limit.
