On this day last year, tragedy struck the country of Haiti. Nearly a quarter of a million lives were lost, more than three hundred thousand people were injured and more than a million people were left homeless and displaced. Many have described it as a “cruel and incomprehensible” blow to a nation that has known its share of hardship and suffering. But I often wonder if we have forgotten the images of despair in the days after the earthquake, or the moments of hope as America joined together with people from around the world in a massive humanitarian effort.

It is said that millions of Americans—one in every two American households— showed their tremendous generosity and compassion by sending contributions to Haiti. One year later are we still praying for Haiti; is the country still in our thoughts; are we still giving to the crippled country full of culture and and lingering on to hope? I would like to think that we are, and if not I challenge us all to do our part to help rebuild Haiti.

Thoughts create blueprints, but sweat builds the monuments.
