COLUMBUS, Ohio -One person was killed and another was injured in a crash in the northbound lanes of Interstate 270 on the city’s north side Monday night.

Columbus police officers and medic personnel were called to the northbound lanes, near Morse Road, at about 10:35 p.m. Monday on a report of a crash.

According to Columbus police, a 1993 Cadillac Eldorado, operated by 18-year-old Brandon Smith, was stopped on the shoulder of I-270 north due to a mechanical problem.

Police said 25-year-old Walter Dixon was operating a 2004 Dodge Ram northbound on I-270 when he drove off the road onto the shoulder and struck the Cadillac.

Smith was pronounced dead at the scene.

The northbound lanes of I-270 were closed while investigators reconstructed the crash. Officers reopened the lanes just before 4 a.m. Tuesday.

Alcohol was not considered a factor in the crash. SOURCE
