BLACK HISTROY

Fred Jones

Born in Kentucky on May 17, 1893, Fred McKinley was, at first, raised by his widowed father, a white Irish-American, following the early death of his mother, an African-American. Jones’s father later left him with Catholic priests, where he was taken care of and educated.. He had a quick and very brilliant mind and possessed a fascination for anything mechanical. He went on later to invent a snowmobile and a portable x-ray machine, but neglected to patent them, which may explain why he is not properly credited for creating them. In the years to come, Fred Jones invented a device to aid in converting silent theaters into “talking” ones, an automatic ticket dispenser, and a device to enable trucks to be refrigerated, among many other original creations.
