A Gay Green Lantern may not be something that comic book readers are used to seeing, but accordig to James Robinson, the Earth 2 writer, it may just be what readers will see in the future. “He’s going to be the leader of the team, this dynamic hero, he’ll do anything to save people, the bravest man on the planet. Why not just make him gay as well,” said Robinson.
The Green Lantern, which can arguably be called one the most known superheros, will be a part of DC Comics once again as the main superhero in the parallel-world, Earth 2. Having the Green Lantern be gay seems like it would help, more than hurt the comic stand.After winning ‘Outstanding Comic’ twice in the last three years from GLAAD (Gay And Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation) for the lesbian Batwoman character, the company feels like they will be taking a large leap into the right direction.
“He’s someone you would want to watch over your children,” Robinson says. “Presenting that kind of a heroic role model hopefully will be a good thing and help to show gays in a positive light for people who might be a little more small-minded.” The goal of Robinson is to show characters, such as The Green Lantern, in a positive light with a different sexuality, allowing for people to break down barriers.
