OSU is doing an internal investigation after rape and kidnapping allegations surfaced against the now former drum major instructor.

According to a statement late Thursday, OSU said Stewart Kitchen’s appointment as a lecturer at the School of Music expired on April 30th and the university has decided not to renew it at this time.

Kitchen is accused of raping an OSU freshman inside his Indiana Avenue home after the two went out for drinks earlier this month.

“She’s very brave and courageous for doing what she’s done and she’s done exactly what she’s supposed to have done and she reported it,” said Sgt. David Pelphrey with Columbus Police.

Police say the 19 year old woman, who attended some of Kitchen’s drum major practices, reported the rape the day after in Toledo where she lives.

Kitchen surrendered to police Wednesday.

He has bonded out of jail after a court appearance Thursday.

Police say they have sent away to a state lab DNA samples from the rape kit and Kitchen for testing. Results should come back early next week.

Kitchen is expected back in court next Friday.
