For the last few days there has been this wild rumor that Beyoncé would be writing and starring in a film about Saartjie (Sarah) Baartman — the South African woman widely known for her appearance in freak shows in the 1800s because of her physical features.
Now, the rumor didn’t even seem within the realm of possibility to us — so we didn’t even bother bringing it to your attention.
A rep for Beyoncé told Billboard in a statement today (Jan. 5),
“Beyonce is in no way tied to this project. This is an important story that should be told, however.”
