Just when you thought it was safe to wear Jordans….a 17-year-old named James Anthony Smith was shot and killed for his shoes.

The Washington, DC teen was gifted the bright red Air Jordan 11’s as an early Christmas gift from his mother. His mom believes he was attacked for the shoes, because the left the young man shoeless on a street near a basketball court by the Frederick Douglas Community Center in their neighborhood.

“According to police, the young man ran almost a block after he was shot for his sneakers, where he collapsed. His house was a mile away from the Frederick Douglas recreation center.

Smith’s mother told the news “He was an all-American kid. He loved his red shoes. He loved basketball. He loved his computer games. . . . I can’t believe he was killed, all over a pair of shoes.” The death of James Anthony Smith is the 110th homicide victim for D.C. this year.”
