Local business owners are happy to see the state pass a new federal order. The new mandate requires businesses that have more than 100 employees report how much they pay men and women the previous year.

Business owners are hopeful that this new mandate will prove that the pay gap between men and women is real and push the agenda to come with a solution.

“If one person is going to be earning more but doing the same job, that undermines that teamwork kind of approach,” said McCann, president of 5 Star Staffing.

Businesses are already required by law to provide data like race to the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.
