More than 5.2 million comic books will be given away on Saturday on Free Comic Book Day!

Here in Columbus and nationwide, over 2,200 comic book specialty shops will give away free comic books. This giveaway is an annual event, one of the most anticipated comic book celebrations of the year! Retailers are preparing to welcome curious, first-time comic book readers, as well as, a herd of seasoned comic book fans into their stores for free comics and exciting events.

Along with the free comics, many comic shops host community events throughout the day, such as creator signings, character appearances and costume contests! Not to mention there is always great sales and deals on exclusive items.

The 51 free comic book titles available this year are designed to appeal to a broad range of tastes.

This year’s diverse selection includes the following and more::

  • Superhero stories, like Marvel’s Avengers and Spider-Man/ Venom#1, as well as DC’s Catwoman: Under the Moon and Dear Justice League
  • Popular kids titles such as Minecraft, The Incredibles, Star Wars Adventures, and Pokémon
  • TV tie-ins featuring series like Riverdale, Doctor Who and Stranger Things

Comic books date back to the 1930s as a unique American art form that has grown – like so many American forms of entertainment – to spread around the globe.

Comics feature a wide range of stories that capture the readers’ imagination and send them on an adventure across countries, worlds, and even galaxies. Free Comic Book Day is the proper salute to a medium that encourages literacy, imagination, and boundless creativity.
