Manute Bol is Hospitalized
Former Washington Bullets star Manute Bol is in serious condition, but reportedly stabilizing, in a Northern Viriginia hospital. Bol had been in the Sudan for the past several months to help build a new school. He also extended his stay to help with the elections in his country – which is no safe or small task there. Bol’s health deteriorated and he was rushed to a local hospital before being flown back to Washington. He’s now being treated for kidney failure and Stevens-Johnson syndrome – a rare but deadly disease that causes the layers of the skin to separate like a burn victim. Tom Prichard, who has worked with Bol on building the school, said that Bol may have to move to a burn unit. “He’s at great risk,” Prichard said. “He’s in a bad way.” Meanwhile, Bol’s wife gave birth to a daughter while he was away. He has yet to see her.
