According to a Pentagon spokeswoman Cynthia Smith told reporters yesterday that military recruiters have been told to accept gay applicants.

The “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy has been suspended, however recruiters were also told they must inform potential recruits that the policy established in 1993 may be reinstated at any time.

The Justice Department is appealing the decision of a federal judge last week stopping the policy, asking for a temporary stay, which U.S. District Judge Virginia Phillips formally refused to grant on Tuesday.
