Monday’s storm toppled many trees across Columbus, damaging several homes.

“It was a big boom right when it hit the roof,” said Bethany Cramer, who saw a tree fall onto a house on Jackson Street in German Village. “It’s crazy to me something so damaging can happen in just a matter of seconds.”

The strong winds also blew off several chunks of a roof on Welch Avenue in Merion Village.

“It sounded like a car crashed into the side of the building,” said Katrina Lentz, who lives inside. “We ran outside and our roof was all over the ground.”

Another large tree fell off Central Avenue in Franklinton. That one blocked a lane of traffic for about an hour Monday afternoon as neighbors tried to clean it up.

The Red Cross said it is helping out two households because of the toppled trees. Fortunately there are no reports of any injuries so far.
