Ariana Grande posted a powerful essay to her social media accounts yesterday (June 7) addressing the “double standards” and “misogyny” in the media following her split with Big Sean back in April.
what I meant when I said what I said about not being Sean’s ex is that I am tired of living in a world where women are mostly referred to as a man’s past, present, or future PROPERTY/POSSESSION. I… do not. belong. to anyone. but myself. and neither do you.
Grande’s message comes after rumors started circulating that she was dating One Direction’s Niall Horon.
Throughout the essay, Grande also spoke on her family’s activist roots, revealing that her Aunt was the first Italian American female President of the National Press Club in Washington, D.C.
After posting the message to her various social accounts, both Taylor Swift and Rita Ora took to Twitter to offer their support and encouragement to the My Everything singer.
